TaxDome’s client-based pricing: what it costs a small tax firm now
TaxDome now prices by active client accounts instead of by staff seat. For a tax practice with a long list of individual clients, the bill climbs with the client list.

Understanding TaxDome’s client-based pricing
TaxDome starts at $1,500 a year for 150 active client accounts, including 20 staff seats, and the price changes with client volume. [1] These are the totals TaxDome’s own pricing calculator returned on November 2, 2026:
| Active client accounts | Annual subscription | Included staff seats |
|---|---|---|
| 150 | $1,500 | 20 |
| 250 | $2,700 | 20 |
| 500 | $5,175 | 20 |
| 600 | $6,000 | 20 |
| 800 | $7,350 | 20 |
| 1,000 | $9,000 | 20 |
Calculator totals, not estimates from a flat charge per additional client. The per-client monthly figure TaxDome displays is a rounded average; subscriptions are billed annually upfront. Check the live calculator and your account-specific offer before buying; optional add-ons are excluded, and existing customers should review their renewal notice.
An active account is not simply a stored contact. TaxDome describes qualifying activity such as logging in, uploading documents, messaging or receiving an invoice, and separate accounts count separately. [1]
TaxDome’s cost now follows how many clients you actively serve, not how many people you employ. Twenty included seats help larger teams with short client lists. A small practice preparing returns for hundreds of individuals pays for that client volume.
What the same firm pays as its client list grows
Most of a tax practice’s clients are active every season: they upload documents, sign in to the portal and receive an invoice. Here is a three-person firm at four client counts.
| Active client accounts | 150 | 250 | 500 | 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BytesHood Firm, first year | $800 | $800 | $800 | $800 |
| BytesHood Firm, years after | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 | $1,000 |
| TaxDome (calculator) | $1,500 | $2,700 | $5,175 | $9,000 |

Client-based pricing vs. staff-based pricing
BytesHood prices its plans by staff seat and includes unlimited clients and client portal users. TaxDome includes a larger staff allowance and prices by active accounts. The team plans from Financial Cents, Canopy and Karbon publish per-user rates.
| Platform and plan | Annual subscription | Pricing basis |
|---|---|---|
| BytesHood Single [2] | $500 first year, then $600/year | One staff seat; unlimited clients |
| BytesHood Firm [2] | $800 first year, then $1,000/year | Three staff seats; unlimited clients. Extra seats $100/year each |
| TaxDome [1] | From $1,500/year; varies by client volume | 20 staff seats included |
| Financial Cents [4] | Solo $228/year Team $588/user/year Scale $828/user/year | Solo is single-user; Team and Scale per user |
| Canopy [5] | Standard $888/user/year Plus $1,308/user/year | Per user |
| Karbon [6] | Team $708/user/year Business $1,068/user/year | Per user |
Annual-billing rates: Financial Cents $19/month (Solo), $49 and $69 per user per month (Team, Scale); Canopy $74 and $109 per user per month; Karbon $59 and $89 per user per month. Annual totals multiply these by 12.
Monthly billing has different terms
BytesHood Firm is $79/month for an eligible new firm’s first 12 consecutive subscription months, then $99/month; Single is $45/month, then $50/month; extra Firm seats are $15/month each. Annual billing uses the prices above.
Financial Cents states that its plans have a 12-month agreement, including monthly-billed plans, with a five-user minimum for monthly billing. Karbon’s monthly option requires a team of four or more. Review payment frequency and contract length separately. [4] [6]
What a small team pays each year

Sources [1], [2], [4]–[6]. BytesHood adds $100 a year per seat beyond the three included. Per-user totals multiply the annual rate by staff count. TaxDome includes 20 seats in every scenario shown, so its totals repeat across team sizes. Taxes, card surcharges, payment processing, optional add-ons, implementation and migration services are excluded. These are subscription comparisons, not equivalent-feature quotes.
BytesHood Firm costs $1,000 for the first year and $1,200 a year after. TaxDome’s calculator quote is $5,175, including capacity for 20 staff. That is $4,175 less in the first year and $3,975 less each year after.
A subscription price difference; it does not imply equal features or guaranteed operating savings.
When another option costs less
Financial Cents Solo ($228 a year) costs less than BytesHood Single. And for ten staff with no more than 150 active accounts, TaxDome’s $1,500 subscription is below BytesHood Firm’s $1,700 a year after the first year. Team size, client volume and the capabilities you need decide which option fits best.
BytesHood is strongest where small tax firms actually sit: a few staff, a long client list, and payroll tax, sales tax and IRS notices to keep track of. Every plan includes unlimited clients and client portal users, so the price does not grow with the number of clients you serve.
Compare everyday workflows alongside price
A lower subscription matters when the software supports your work. Test a representative client from intake through document requests, return tracking, signatures and billing.
| Platform | Selected published capabilities | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| BytesHood [2] [3] | Client Management, Client Portal, Payroll Tax Manager, Sales Tax Manager, Tax Notice Manager and Billing & Payment on one Client Master. | Tax return workflow, recurring tax administration, client documents, appointments and billing. |
| TaxDome [1] | Client portal, documents, e-signatures, workflow automation, proposals, payments and tax software integrations. | Client-volume pricing, integration coverage and optional add-ons. |
| Financial Cents [4] | Workflow, client requests, portal, time tracking, billing and QuickBooks Online integration. Scale adds automatic client follow-ups, task dependencies and a branded portal. | Whether Team or Scale fits your automation needs. |

| Karbon [6] | Integrated email, collaboration, workflow, time tracking, billing and portal. Business adds task automation and automatic client reminders. | Email collaboration and the automation tier you need. |
Not an exhaustive feature list; an omitted capability should not be read as unavailable. Features, limits, integrations and implementation requirements vary.
BytesHood’s focus: connected client and tax administration
Both BytesHood plans include all six systems. Client Management supports tax-year return workflows and online appointment booking. The portal handles documents, messages and multi-signer e-signatures. Payroll tax, sales tax and notice tracking connect to the same client records used for billing.
Payroll Tax Manager and Sales Tax Manager organize records, due dates and review work; they do not file returns or move payroll funds. Remote Forms 8879 and 8878 signing with built-in KBA identity checks will be available shortly; the identity-verification provider is under contract, and it is not counted here as available today.
Look at the first year and the years after
Compare introductory and ongoing prices separately. Ask what happens when you add staff, serve more clients or need another integration, and include setup, training and data migration. For small firms, BytesHood’s unlimited clients, three included Firm seats and connected tax administration tools make it worth a hands-on trial alongside established platforms.
